I just started reloading for my 444 CVA scout rifle . It has a 1-20” barrel that is 25” long . The only thing I have to compare it to is a Hornady xtp 200 grain . With very little to go on I started out on the very bottom of the weight scale . I’m using V N120 . Starting load is 51 grains . COL. 2.265 . I’m 20-25 th off the lands . So I loaded two rounds at 51 gr just for pressure and speed check . At 75 yards both bullets in the same hole . Speed 2700 fps . Pressure 0 , recoil was very light . At 52 grains . 2750 fps . No Pressure, very light recoil . Shot in the same two holes as at 51 grains .hole is just getting bigger . Now this is where things started to get a little tougher . At 53 gr of N120 the Bullet what’s to push back out to COL of 2.582 . No matter what in did the powder does not compress well . I did shoot those two, they all so hit in the same hole as the other four previous . hole just gets a little bigger . They shot at 2800fps . I did find by using a drop tube I can get 1.8 grains of more powder in the case before I run into the same problem . Max powder is 57.3 . I will never achieve that . Does the Eng team over at Hammer Bullets have any data for a 444 and a 200 gr Shock hammer . I can use to look at . I think I’m already where I need to be at around 53 gr . The bullets are very accurate. When I’m done and sighted in at 0 to 150yards it’s only going to be 2.5 “ low at 200 y and still moving 2100 fps and still One ton of KE . This is really what I’m after flat shooting all the way out to 200 yards . All other powders listed won’t even come close to N120 . I’m going 5 stars on this as this is the second Hammer bullets I’ve reloaded for in two different rifles and both have been very accurate.
